Carbon Hill, AL

Carbon Hill is an old mining town where people used to make a living off of digging for coal in Western Alabama. Today it’s mostly a ghost town except for the railroad freight line that passes regularly throughout the day. Even in hard scrabble places like this there are still wonderful, friendly people who will treat a stranger to dinner at the only restaurant in town. Or the college student who stops to talk to you about what you’re doing, to reveal he one day wants to be an oral surgeon.
