Arecibo, Puerto Rico

Day 2

Following a grueling 25-mile first day walk and long deep sleep, this morning we started our day at the Catedral San Felipe I the main square. Today Keir and and I are joined by Esteban Figueroa on our 12- mile caminata to Las Caninas I.

Before starting we met up with another artist, Fernandez Marquez, who gave us a tour of his house and some of the community art he has been directing in the old fort area of Arecibo.

Marquez described the confluence of three rivers meeting the ocean, traditional flooding areas, and how the original design of the Puerto Rican flag was created by a former resident of Arecibo. Other conversations ranged from art to religion, power and politics. Important community engagement for the Artseverywhere project.
