Walk to Freedom, following the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway

Sandtown, Delaware

My walk today will begin with hitchhiking to the point where I left off last week in Goldsboro, Maryland. Then I’ll walk back to my car in Sandtown. I imagine Tubman came this way because of its isolation. There’s little here but vast tracks of farm lands and former plantations. It’s the perfect place to hide.

My goal today is simple, cross the Mason Dixon line into “Southern” Delaware in hopes of completing my walk to Sandtown. Last Saturday I surrendered to strong winds, cold temperatures, and tendinitis in the heel of my foot only walking about eight miles.
