Descendant: Saladin Allah

Of the many amazing people I met during my 2022 walk to Canada, Saladin Allah, was one of the more incredible people I talked to. He is the third great-grandson of Josiah Henson, (1789-1883) who was born into slavery in Charles County, Maryland and later escaped with his family to Canada. I met Saladin at a dedication ceremony for the Cataract Hotel Memorial Park in Niagara Falls, New York.  In our brief meeting, Saladin talks about his famous third great-grandfather and his own upbringing.

In Maryland, one can visit the Josiah Henson Museum and Park in North Bethesda. Of if you’re in the Dresden, Ontario, neighborhood, you can visit The Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History.
