It was on this bridge on the fourth day of the Belfast to Derry March that Civil Rose guts protestors were ambushed and attacked by loyalist mobs and B-Special paramilitary police. I learned today that the bridge is going to be removed in the next year. It supposed to be rebuilt in another location.
Yesterday I officially filed my “Notice of Intention to Organise a Public Procession” to walk across Northern Ireland. I’m singing in the rain this morning as I walk to Olive Branch, Mississippi. By early afternoon I will be within 20 miles of Memphis and the National Civil Rights Museum. I expect to finish on Saturday morning with my Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity brothers and other community members.
Saw the first sign today for Memphis – 230 miles to go – I can do this.
