Recycled materials & tools to make a homemade lantern

During the time of slavery in the United States, the Underground Railroad was a complex web of land, sea, and river routes taken by Freedom Seekers trying to avoid capture by man hunters.

Due to the risk of being caught or captured, many Freedom Seekers travelled by night between safe houses, located 10-20 miles apart. Lanterns in the window was a signal welcoming them and promised safety.

For those interested in making a homemade lantern out of recycled materials, here’s a list of the tools and materials you will need. Add enthusiasm, energy, and a little muscle until done.
