Quote: Arturo Schomburg

I came across this picture today of Arturo Schomburg in my photo library. It was taken in Auburn, New York last summer at the Equal Rights Heritage Center shortly after arriving in the city on my walk to Canada. The 1925 quote reminded me of Why I have been tracing the Underground Railroad movement. It’s to recall the “social damage of slavery” on our society today that those working in the abolitionist movement so well understood in the past. In some small way I believe that as the vessel of the present gen I have a responsibility in my time to help people discover the truth about current and past injustices so repairs can be made to their own sense of responsibility.
