Yesterday’s walk in Preston, Maryland commemorating the 169th anniversary of Harriet Tubman’s Christmas Rescue of her brothers was magical. While discussing the brilliant moon overhead with a couple on the walk, I learned it was a waxing gibbous. I quickly searched Google for phases of the moon December 24,1854.
Turns out the moon was also in a waxing gibbous phase on Christmas Eve 1854, certainly something Harriet would have observed with her keen sense of the outdoors. It was this moment that I felt her spirit and could see her smiling at us as we rejoiced her living legacy.
