Walk to Freedom This Week

Walk to Freedom South Jersey was on the move yesterday from Mullica Hill to Sewell. Today through Thursday we will be making up miles to catch up with our schedule. We plan to finish in Burlington on Saturday May 28.
If you wish to jump on board, all the walks between today and Thursday start at 5:00 pm and are 5 miles in length. See the schedule below:
Tuesday May 10 [Catch up walk, 5:00 p.m.]
Sewell Post Office 141 Center St. Sewell NJ 08080 to Deptford Mall, 5.5 miles
Wednesday May 11 [Catch up walk, 5:00 p.m.]
Deptford Mall to the Peter Mott House, 26 Kings Court, Lawnside, NJ 08045. 5 miles. The Peter Mott House is the oldest house in Lawnside, NJ. Peter Mott, an African American preacher and his wife, Eliza. The Mott House served as a station along the Underground Railroad. Mott was himself a free Black person and a leader in the abolitionist movement.

The Peter Mott House, 26 Kings Court, Lawnside, NJ 08045 to James Cooper Elementary School, 1960 Greentree Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08003. 6 miles.
Saturday May 14 [12:30 p.m. start]
James Cooper Elementary School, 1960 Greentree Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08003 to Jacob’s Chapel, 318 Elbo Lane, Mt. Laurel, NJ, about 5 miles. Jacob’s Chapel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it was used as a safe place for slaves on the Underground.
