I Am A Proud Descendant of Freedom Seekers: Irene Moore Davis

Recently I had the opportunity to talk with historian Irene Moore Davis about her work and career as an educator, historian, writer, podcaster, and community advocate who speaks and writes frequently about equity, diversity, inclusion, and African Canadian history. In our conversation, she discusses growing up in a household where her connection to noted African Canadian and African American Freedom Seekers was commonly talked about as child. One of her descendants, Mary Ann Shadd, an Abolitionist, Educator, Lawyer, and newspaper publisher, was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware before her family moved to Canada after the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act was passed in the U.S.
