A Johnston Roundup – The Backstory

Brotherhood on the streets of Brotherly love. Last week my brother Keir arranged for a photographer to take a couple of pictures of Keir, Haile, and I on a downtown Philly street. Keir arranged for it to be taken adjacent to his Octavius Catto mural at 1415 Catherine St., next to the Universal Institute Charter School. Several days leading up to the picture I texted both Haile and Keir and asked what are you wearing? I heard nothing from them in response to my inquiry about how to dress for the occassion.
Knowing my brothers they were going to show up and show out. I talked to my nieces, who were too eager to be my personal stylists when I called for their advice. I settled on a black color scheme with a red collared shirt. My niece, Machere, said “don’t tell me you’re going to wear your cowboy hat.” “Of course I am,” I said.
On the day of the photo shoot Keir and I both show up in our western style hats (not planned) and Haile arrives in a beige colored sherpa fleece jacket (two cowboys and a sheep, I heard someone joke). Thanks to my neice Cecilia for taking this picture.
